Popular Facial Massage Terms/ Definitions:

  • Anma refers to both a practice of traditional Japanese massage and to practitioners of that art. In fact, modern shiatsu massage is largely derived from anma philosophy.
  • Gua sha or Guasha is a traditional Chinese medical treatment whereas the skin is scraped to produce light, beneficial petechiae. Practitioners believe that gua sha releases unhealthy bodily matter from blood stasis within sored, tired, stiff or injured muscle areas to stimulate new oxygenated blood flow to the areas. Thereby, it promotes metabolic cell repair, regeneration, healing and recovery. Additionally, with facial gua sha, the petechiae (deep redness) is NOT an element. Specifically, as light gentle pressure, and movements combine for optimal benefit.
  • Myofascial release generally speaking, is an alternative medicine therapy that claims to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles. In particular, facial fascia release is most beneficial for treatment of soft tissue that becomes impaired/ restricted.
